| 2026-07-17 12:00:00Z | Jul. 17, 2026 | Yuko Torigoe | Rotary Youth Exchange Student from 1991–1993 | Jul. 17, 2026 12:00 p.m. |
Born and raised in Okayama, Japan, Yuko Torigoe came to Pasadena, Texas, as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student from 1991–1993, sponsored by the Pasadena Rotary Club. During her exchange, she was graciously hosted by the families of Bill Barmore, the late Gene Shepard, Roy Kreitz, the late Bernard Bentch, Ed Rogge, and the late Ken Mathis. She attended and graduated from Sam Rayburn High School, an experience that profoundly shaped both her personal and professional journey. Following high school, Yuko attended Texas A&M University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Science. She later graduated from Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine, earning her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree, and has been practicing general dentistry since 2001. In 2015, she opened Harmony, PC, a holistic dental practice in Boston that integrates conventional dentistry with a biologic, whole-body health approach. Most recently, she served as President of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) for the 2024–2025 term. Yuko has been married to her husband, Eddy, since 2011. She frequently returns to Japan to spend quality time with her family and remains deeply grateful for the lifelong relationships formed during her Rotary exchange years. During this visit to Houston, she is reconnecting with her Texas host families who played a pivotal role in her life. In her spare time, Yuko enjoys running — having completed both the Honolulu Marathon and the Boston Marathon — trail running in the Boston suburbs, practicing yoga, and meditation. |
